Burana Tower

Burana Tower was built in 11 century at the place of an old site. There was a flourishing city on the Great Silk Road - with the name Balasagun. Balasagun was famous writer of that time the city of named after him. Many traders were coming to that place to sell their good and spend a night. Nowadays there is a Tower that is 24 meters high now. At that time it was 45 meters high but because of the earthquake in 15 century half of it fell down. This tower used as a sign for travelers and traders, as a watching tower and as a place to call local people to pray. After the earthquake in the 15 century people were scared to stay in the city. What they thought was that God damned them and sent a disaster to them there. That is way there ran away in a hurry and did not have the majority of their things. Our archeologists found many artifacts there and you are able to see some of them in a local museum. The other part of finds was taken to Russian during Soviet time. The houses in the city were made of clay bricks and they melt because of time and precipitations. Now it is possible to see only the tower and a hill nearby that is supposed to be khan's palace.

Also you will visit a cemetery of Balbals there;Balbal is Stone Warrior. In the 7 century the tribe called Turks them for honored fallen warriors. They were found in different places of Kyrgyzstan and taken to this place in order to keep them for next generation.

Not far from Balbals you will see ancient petrogliphs - stone paintings referring to 8 century B.C. They also were brought to the Balasagun city to be presented for tourists and travelers as a piece of Kyrgyz history.
